Sentence and type of sentences worksheets


THE SENTENCE
The words in the left column do not make sense. The same words in the right column make sense. That  is because the words in the right column  have been placed in their proper order. Such groups of words are called sentences.

Remember :
A sentences is a group of words which makes complete sense.
A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop (.), a question mark (?), or an exclamation mark (!)

Kinds of sentences
1.      Assertive 2. Interrogative 3. Imperative, 4. Exclamatory
We have learnt that a group of words that makes complete sense is called a sentences.
Type of Sentences           Functions         Examples

1.Assertive/Declarative sentence states or declares a fact a fact           
  •        The sun rises in the east.
  •        My father is an artist.
  •        It rained in the evening.

Assertive/Declarative sentences end with a full stop. (.)

2. Interrogative sentences  asks questions 
  •      Who are you ?
  •     Where do you live ?
  •      Are you hungry ?
  •      Interrogative Sentences end with the sign of interrogation (?)


3.Imperative sentence       Gives orders/ commands        
Be quiet
 Shut the door.
Come here.
Makes requests gives advice  
Give me your book.
Don’t eat roadside food.
Brush your teeth, before you sleep.
